backfires and such

I do have mild backfires on mine as well.. I was curious to know what causes this... is it to rich, to lean? do I really need to take out that spacer? I'm thinking that if someone already took the guts out of the muffler then more than likely (don't know though) the white spacer may be gone also. If I can try an adjustment before tackling the spacer I would prefer to do that...
And on the note of Family there... I'm not sure, I know I have a good bit of family all over GA. I graduated in 1995 from Bowdon (close to Carrollton) but I do have friends that went to Cherokee High ( I think) his name is Leland Chandler. Anyhow, I have a lot of family around (around 35-40 first cousins) so the probability is high. Until later...

P.S. Haven't had my bike on the open road since the muffler mod but seems to be doing the same if not better on power. I have to go, have some muffler and header gaskets to pick up in Douglasville...
